MUSLIM NEW YEAR CELEBRATION

The Muslim Year begins on the 1st of Muharram 1425 corresponding to 21st February 2004. The Islamic Religious Council of Singapore (MUIS) launches the new hijrah year 1425 at Masjid Sultan with a theme 'Semarak Ilmu, Semangat Padu' extolling the importance of right knowledge towards achieving a harmonious living environment among the multi-racial and multi-religious community of Singapore.

After presenting a cheque for more than $141,000, Dr Yaacob Ibrahim (right) receives a momento from Mr. Zulkifli Baharuddin, Chairman of Mercy Relief and witnessed by HE.Ambassador of the  Republic of Iran. 
The Mufti, Syed Isa bin Mohamed Semait, leads the jemaah in reciting the doa for the end of hijrah year 1424 and the beginning doa for the hijrah year 1425. More than 1000 people attended the function in the prayer hall of Masjid Sultan.
The Minister for Community Development and Sports and also Minister in-charge of Muslim affairs having a discussion with Council Members of Muslimin Trust Fund Association (MTFA), Mr Mirza Namazie (talking to the Minister) Mr Yunus Valibhoy, President of MTFA (partly hidden) and Mr Daing Mohamed Farhan (in the fore right).
